I’m watching the Apple media webcast about Apple’s new music service and Steve Jobs says this:
…reminds me of something Hunter S. Thompson said:
“The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs.
There’s also a negative side.”
Actually, I’ve looked this up before and Hunter S. didn’t say that - or he did, but it wasn’t about the music industry. That’s not to say he doesn’t agree though…
Cheers to Apple for the new hardware/software/service…I’m waiting to use it and report my findings.
I was just listening to Steve Jobs - Music To Your Ears Keynote
http://www.channel4.com/life/microsites/G/gayometer/gayometer.html
The Channel 4 website is featuring a “Gay-O-Meter” or quiz which will determine one’s gay-ness by a percentage. I thought the questions on the quiz were pretty fair, although a few were obvious traps. Although I came kinda close to a 51% gay majority, the Gay-O-Meter reports that 43% means “I am right in the middle and I am a happy and well adjusted hetero man!”
Finally, I can go to bed everynight not so confused!
I was just listening to DJ Harry - Wake Up
Today in my Pre-production & Development class, we were assigned our final projects: develop proposals and treatments for two 5 minute (silent) film shorts. The significance of this project, other than being a significant percentage of our final grade, is that they are intended to be used in our Production I class - which I just registered for this afternoon to take in the summer.
So the reality is - I have a week to come up with two ideas for two films I will actually be making this summer. This is the part when it starts to get exciting…
I was just listening to Bob Dylan - Most Of The Time
This makes me feel excited and kind of disappointed all at the same time. Recently, Luke and I debated the merits behind remaking classic horror movies since Peter Jackson recently announced he was going to do King Kong. Since I was pro-remake, Luke asked me what “I would remake” and my answer was The Creature From The Black Lagoon.
A few days later, I read this on AICN:
“I want to set the story in Victorian times during the exploration of the Amazon. The original Creature was essentially King Kong, but I want to make it more a ‘beauty and the beast’ fable. I want the look and feel to be akin to Jules Verne’s tales like 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA. I want to increase the horror edge and make it really scary, because my archaeological explorers will discover an area of the Amazon that has been kept on a tangential track of evolution alongside mankind. So there will be giant carnivorous squid, prehistoric sharks and weird alternate lifeforms that shouldn’t really exist in such a fresh-water environment. Fish do truly have either an angelic or devilish quality, and I want to play on that. The Creature will be the Man of this exotic world,” del Toro explains. “He will be very smart and able to turn the tables on his human hunters. I have a scene where the hunters find fossil remains and realize that the Creature’s brain cavity is larger than a human one. He’s not the lumbering, roaring monster of Ricou Browning’s day, but a sophisticated Gill Man that will come to life through a mix of CGI and a man in a suit. In the original film, the Creature falls in love with the Julie Adams character. The twist in my version is that the girl will also fall in love with him. I want her to almost get it on with the Creature!”
- Guillermo del Toro
The reality is I would just love to see an update to the classic, done by the right person with the right motivations. I can’t think of anyone better for the job. I hope he ends up making it.
I was just listening to Kenna - Love Hate Sensation
All the misery without the death sentence. At least I don’t think I am going to die. My body feels weak and achey. The inside of my head feels like a psycho merry-go-round. I am not surprised I got sick. Considering the filfth in the local public transportation, the fact that I got piss drunk off half a bottle of tequila last Thursday and the warmer weather - I don’t know why I *don’t* have SARS.
Will the end of us be our own failures at personal hygene? Having been in a Chicago Chinatown grocery store, barely surviving the stinch much less the exhibition of rotting food, I can see why all mutations of the flu originate from our Far East friends. Very good example of the problem with extreme population density and why free-range chickens are tasty.
I was just listening to Willie Nelson + Merle Haggard - It’s My Lazy Day
Why did I not know Dennis Miller taped his HBO special there? That would have been fun to go to. I’m about to watch it in about 20 minutes, so I guess I will have to grieve over laughter.
