Hey Man, Nice Shot

I will be needing to go out and shoot some photos for my Image Design class tomorrow which has prompted me to look through some of the galleries at Gettyone.com.

This one is amazing…

Making A Film For Yourself Is Masturbation

Or that’s what my screenwriting ‘teach told me. She seems to walk a fine line of genius and insanity a good thing, in my opinion. I think she’s going to be a great teacher.

Actually, I have consistently great teachers this semester with the weakest link being my cheeseball History of Cinema prof. I can tell he really wishes he was teaching something else but since he’s stuck with this, he’s going to “make the best of it”. So along with compelling stories of how it all got started, the whole class is subjected to his enthusiasm. Whew…

It’s been funny telling old friends from spring semester my war stories of Production I this summer. It’s also been interesting talking with old profs . I feel like I’ve been going to school here for a while.

So my first week back…not too shabby. Finally kicked back the work hours so that I’m a part-time employee working…tada…part-time.

And my personalsocial life? That’s the best part…

Back To School…Back To School…To Prove To Dad That I’m Not A Fool…

Ohh back to school…

I had lunch with my pops before class today…we went to Perry’s, an infamous loop deli who’s sandwiches are high reaching mounds of food I can’t begin to describe. Or maybe I should. For example, I had the #21 or Peter Panski which consists of baked ham, peanut butter, bacon, lettuce & tomato with mayo on wheat. This was a sandwich I could not conquer even on my best day…it was incredible! Great sandwich place…

Perry’s has a strict policy about no cellphones in the restaurant. Signs stating the policy are up all over the place, although there is a lot of stuff all over the walls - pictures, menus, posters, etc. Knowing that, there will always be someone who uses or heaven forbid…answers their cellphone in the deli. One such woman did this…and the entire restaurant gets quiet. I start hearing snickers and whispers of “Ohhh shit, here he comes…”. The man himself…Perry comes out from the back, speaks into an intercom and begins to rail into this woman:

“Ahh excuse me ‘mam…yeah, you…ahhh I’m not sure if you noticed the signs up about every 6 feet in the place, including the one right next to your booth…but ahhh NO CELLPHONES ARE ALLOWED!!!!”

The woman was terrified and embarrassed until the whole restaurant starts laughing and then I think she realized that it was just all a part of Perry’s charm…and she got off her phone.

I had my first class of the semester…Image Design for Cinema. I am extremely excited about this class…my prof is pretty cool, the class seems to be not…stupid…and the course material is great. We’re going to be working mostly in 35mm stills/slides but I get to shoot 200feet of color negative film…so I don’t feel so bad about not being in Production II this semester. I was also excited to see that Marshall McCluhan is on the suggested reading list…I think taking Aesthetics of Interactive Multimedia was a very wise choice.

So now I’m about to go into History of Cinema…which I’m sure will be a lesson today on everyone’s favorite filmmaking Klansman, D.W. Griffiths…

Another Rhodes Scholar From Arkansas?

Yet this one seems to be a sharp, squeeky clean, highly decorated General…I think the 2004 Presidential Race just got interesting…

Born in Chicago, too…

I like his website…great design and the “Draft Clark for President” thing is really smart. And he definitely has a great grassroots campaign on the net, which is running on a lot of Blogger sites…go Blogger!
