Attack of The Killer Pollen

I have been suffering for the past 12+ hours or so due to allergies. Definitely a new experience for me. I used to feel pretty good about being invulnerable to the wicked Austin cedar pollen. Payback time? Probably. I just want to rip my nose out of my face.

The Regal Beagle In The Sky

I’m wondering if The Man In Black just walked into the Regal Beagle In The Sky to join John Ritter for a drink. It’s a sad day…we lost some good talent.

Addendum
From a friend of a friend:

I have seen dark days before, where no umbrella can shield us from rains
of mortality. But no day, save those of war and national tragedy, in my
insignificant past have robbed us of two legends in a single swoop. For
those unaware, we have lost two John’s today - Cash and Ritter. The man
who walked the line and the man who tripped over it. These two crowned
each end of our pop culture spectrum, guilty as the pleasure was. Be it at
Folsom Prisom or the Regal Beagle, they floated the persona that shaped
us. We were toughed up by one and softened by the other, but now the
facades meet in the middle, and all we can do is remember. Honor the
memories as you will, but let these two attachments take you back to
better days.

Today…

I remember where I was a year ago… I also remember where I was two years ago. A lot of things are different now.

Damn, I’ve got the worst headache I can remember from recent memory. Painfully bad, even after taking 800Mg of Advil this morning. It could be that the headache itself is effecting my memory, therefore I may have had a headache this bad and just can’t remember. Maybe I’ll feel better after lunch.

Steven Tyler Says

After I shake his hand and tell him thanks for stopping by (the store)…”Right on.” Mr. Tyler tested my star-struckness this evening…it was really, really hard to keep my cool…but I did. I walked away from him because I am a badass.

I had an interesting week. My aunt and uncle were visiting from Houston and I spent some time with them and my parents out in Highland Park. We also had a lovely time in Milwaukee, visiting the MAM and wine shopping. The MAM had a wonderful exhibit on one of my new industrial design heroes, Brooks Stevens as well as a collection which, not quite at the same volume as, rivals the Art Institute of Chicago in quality and diversity of works. I felt pretty cool when I saw one of the employees taking a piece out of the elevator to which I whispered to my dad, “That looks like a Georgia O’Keefe”. The museum dude gave me a sly look and a slight nod of confirmation. They have such a great modern art collection. I even got to see Basquiat’s “Napolean”…what a treat!

It was funny and interesting listening to my aunt/uncle + mom/dad jabber on family gossip, politics, etc. My aunt who is one of the most conservative people I know, was tickled that I was working for Apple since Rush Limbaugh claims to be a big fan and Apple user. I didn’t have the heart to tell her who was elected to Apple’s board of directors this year.

I got a copy of Al Franken’s latest opus, Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at The Right. It is, as I anticipated hilarious and fun to read. That and it helps if you think Ann Coulter is a crazy bitch and Fox News is all that is wrong with cable news. Or, pop-news as I like to call it. The good news is that I will get to meet Franken on Oct 1 when he will be at the Borders on Michigan Ave for a book signing. Apart from his books, I have a deep respect and admiration for his comic genius. This will be the second time I’ve got to see him in person the first was at a taping for the Conan O’Brien show ala NYC with BNM 2002.

Oh and I have a new freakin’ roommate. A year later and I am living with another woman. And a pussycat. So we’re one big, happy family. Mackenzie has made some definite changes to the place, specifically the asthetics and amount of stuff we have in the house. Which I’m cool with…just takes a few days to get adjusted to. I’m not used to curtains, nor do I have much experience with red curtains.

Is Mackenzie one of those goth chicks? Hell no, but the NIN collection and dead flowers might lead someone not as observant to make that conclusion. Mackenzie is just a fiery lass, studying to be Yet Another Lawyer, kicking ass and taking names in the process. And she has a soft spot for cheesy glam rockers too. She’s dressin’ up slutty tomorrow to try and get Vince Neil to come back to our place after the show. If she does, I’m cool with it as long as we can roll tape. I know Vince doesn’t mind.
