Congress is proposing to cut $220 million from PBS (almost half of their public funding) beginning October 2005. PBS has more information on this, including ways you can threaten to personally kick your Congressman in the balls if this happens. Ok, that’s my thing. Granted, I don’t tune in PBS very often - but when I do, it’s because it’s quality programming. I love Nova and all of the very enlightening documentaries they air. And no commericials. That is boobtube bliss.
But more than just the decent programming, I feel that PBS is an institution that should be protected. And not just because I worked for a PBS station. Because I grew up on it. And who doesn’t love NPR?
Yet another frustrating sign of the times. The irony is that there are plenty of other networks who have been focusing on why we need to spend our nations dollars elsewhere.
