He is a god among men.
Ok, that is a tad bit dramatic but I think Santiago Calatrava is an amazing architect - the Frank Lloyd Wright of our era. Not that I know a lot about architecture. But I have experienced his work first hand and it is awe inspiring to say the least. Consider him added to my list of favorite arteests.
Calatrava has designed The Fordham Tower, which built as proposed would be the tallest building in North America. And rather than take the Trump approach which is to make the outside un-interesting and the inside…interesting - Calatrava has brought art back to architecture. Chicago doesn’t need another square building - it needs to continue the rich tradition of architecture and Calatrava will do just that.
I for one like the design - others, like my Dad (another Calatrava fan) do not. I think it would be worth it for it to be built, just to piss off Trump.

I feel like, as of recent, death has been more prevelant in my life than it normally is. I expect that will continue, seeing that I am getting older.
Instead of being sad about it, I’d rather accept it as a part of life and honor those who have passed on to….?
I enjoyed watching the montage piece ABCNews did honoring Peter Jennings. He was a remarkable journalist and a success story for those who obtain their education from work experience rather than a classroom.

I just want to congratulate my beautiful girlfriend aka love-of-my-life on completing film school. I know how tough this is to accomplish for anyone, let alone the challenges and roadblocks Devin overcame to finish a challenging yet rewarding degree. I am impressed. I am proud. I am humbled. I am warm-fuzzied.
I am excited!

Hello (high-level executive’s name withheld),
Yesterday, during our discussion over the unapproved purchase your former subordinate (my boss’ boss) made without your “knowledge” or “approval”, you mentioned that for the price of the Nikon D70s ($1400), we could have purchased a Hasselblad camera. Would you be able to recommend a retailer/vendor that sells Hasselblad’s (digital - or film) in that price range? I’ve only been able to find them in the $6000-$20000 range.
Warmest Regards,
Kevin

I had gadget envy just from reading the name Mighty Mouse - before I even checked out what a great invention it might be. I’ll have to go test it out at NMA - but I’m sure it will offer a great experience. Apple can’t just release a multi-function mouse NOW AFTER ALL THESE YEARS and not do it right…
I’ve also had beta delusions after reading about the CSS bug fixes in IE 7 and checking out a review w/ screen shots of Windows Vista. My delusion is that these are going to be great products but the reality is they will be improvements. Because Microsoft is a victim of their own success, they aren’t allowed the freedom to truly innovate IE and Windows without screwing the world their client base over, high-security-prison-shower-room style.
For me, the direction Microsoft Windows is headed in is just validation that Mac OS X has been - and will continue to be doing the right thing.

First off, my apologies to anyone who was just spoiled by the title of this post.
This week’s episode of Six Feet Under was one of the most emotional experiences I’ve ever had from watching television. And under normal circumstances, I would consider that to be at best weird and at worst pathetic. Yet, after checking in with my fellow 6ftUnder fans - my feelings have been validated.
Peter Krause’s “Nate” was not just a character on a fantastic HBO series (remember, it’s not television - it’s HBO) - he was man that a lot of people could relate to and even more people loved, despite his obvious flaws. I certainly related to him on many levels - not all - but many. His revelation on life has become a daily affirmation for me: that life is precious and if there is something you want to change about yourself, make the change now.
Dan put it best when he said, it’s just not the death of a character but of an era. I’ll miss discussing and reveling in Nate’s adventures with my fellow 6ftUnder brothers and sisters as much as I miss Nate.
Hats off to Peter Krause, Alan Ball, those sick and twisted writers - hell, everyone involved with Six Feet Under. Next week will be a tough episode to watch - but it will be worth it. I can’t wait to see how the season ends…
