The guy who “botched” the Iraq War is finally resigning. I couldn’t be more pleased from the news of the past 24 hours.
It’s clear that Bush values loyalty above all (Tenet, Miers, etc.) but it’s a shame he couldn’t reason with the facts and get rid of him before now. Iraq has a chance - and I’m going to assume that our troops are more excited about this than they were Saddam Hussein’s death sentence.
The new guy: Robert Gates, big intelligence guy, former CIA director (1991-1993), former Texas A&M President (2002-2006, woop), member of the Baker-Hamilton commission and an Eagle Scout. I wonder if the old man had anything to do with the choice?
It’s an encouarging change and I wish him well. There is certainly no small task ahead of him, inheriting a sloppy mess to fix.
