Spring Has Sprung

The first weekend of warm weather hit New York and everyone came outside to play. The first stop was at Shea Stadium to watch the Mets vs. Braves. Although the Saturday game was a 7-2 win, Mets lost Friday and Sunday thanks to big home runs by Chipper Jones and Kelly Johnson, respectively. It looks like these two teams will be battling it out for the rest of the season for the NL East.

One thing different about watching The Mets this year: the construction on the new Shea Stadium CitiField does not go un-noticed beyond the outfield. Let’s “enjoy” those Shea seats while we still can…

From Shea it was a hop, skip and a jump from the 7, to the N/R over to Astoria. We waited 45 minutes to get into the Bohemian/Astoria Beer Garden - the last of it’s kind in the city. Our crew managed to knock out several pitchers of good beer and soak up the last bit of sun for the day. Drinking in public, in that large of a space is certainly a treat from having been couped up in Manhattan bars all winter long.

This weekend was difficult to get around the city on foot since everyone else had the same idea. Streets were crowded with pedestrians as if it was rush hour. Most places serving ice cream, cold beverages, etc were swarmed with people. Shake Shack in Madison Square Park had a 45-60min line that I didn’t bother to get involved with.

The warm season has arrived and I will enjoy it for a while but I know inevitably it will get a lot warmer (and stinky/filthy) in the city as summer kicks into high gear. Here’s to hoping for a mild summer.
