Inevitabilty Is For Losers

Even though I didn’t plan to root for the Giants after knocking the Cowboys out in the playoffs, the Patriots made it easy to do so. Other than the “underdog” effect, I felt it was imperative to send these pre-Madonna motherfuckers back to Foxboro with an otherwise insignificant record.

Was that really the best quarterback ever to play the game getting knocked down 18 times? Hardly. Having to live in their television market, not to mention their persistently hyped coverage, I watched them win too many of their games by shear luck or by the 4th quarter dysfunction of the opposing team. It was almost as if nobody watched the squeeker in which the Patriots almost lost to the Baltimore Ravens, one of the worst teams in the NFL.

Other than the late miracle play by Eli Manning in the 4th quarter, what made the Patriots loss so enjoyable was the intravenous therapy of inevitability forced on football fans for the past several weeks. It’s also great to see bad sportsman lose and there is no better example than Bill Belichick. Other than the fact that he is a cheat, his low-class move to storm the field to get the congratulating out of the way so he can catch the private jet waiting on the team was the perfect example of his pompous, fuck-you-I’ve-won-three-Super-Bowl’s attitude. Of course the media didn’t even think to ask him about it in the postgame conference which is ironic considering the flack Randy Moss caught for the same stunt against the Redskins two years ago.

In the wake of this amazing win by Eli Manning and the Giants, I can’t help but be reminded of another contest: Super Tuesday. Here you have one contestant, often referred to as the Inevitable One as well as a newcomer on the field who, while he doesn’t have a lot of experience, might just be the one to win a championship.

Tomorrow, Barack Obama will hold a rally in the IZOD Center at the Meadowlands, stationed next door to Giants Stadium. Considering this event was planned well before the Giants win tonight, I can’t help but think this is a good omen for Barry on Super Tuesday.
